• Biography: Leading citizens of Livingston and Wyoming Counties, New York, Published by Biographical Review Pub. Co., Boston, 1895. Jesse Patchin came to America from Hesse-Cassel, Germany as a member of the Hessian troops to fight against the colonies but deserted the ranks of the foe and remained in this country settling in Ballston Spa, Saratoga County, NY where he died.

Note: This is very different from Patchin Patchen Genealogy which lists him as being born in Connecticut. Research continues. Patchin Patchen Genealogy makes reference to the Leading citizens of Livingston and Wyoming Counties, New York under Jesse's grandson Ira's listing, indicating that the authors were aware of the document but obviously did not give it any credibility.

• Military Service: Albany County Militia in 17th Regiment. Source: "History and Genealogy of the Patchin-Patchen Family", Grace Patchen Leggett, 1952

• Residence: From Census, 1790, Ballston, Saratoga Co., NY. Lists one (1) male over the age of sixteen, two (2) males under 16, and four (4) females. The totals are consistent with the family listing as both Jesse Jr. and Azor are under 16 years of age. Bernard was born after 1790. The History and Genealogy of the Patchin - Patchen Family by Grace Patchin Leggett lists Clarissa as having died on 27 January 1787, but the census of 1790 indicates she was still alive.

• Residence: From Census, 1800, Milton, Saratoga, New York. Census indicates that there is one (1) male under the age of ten (10), one (1) male over the age of 45, one (1) female aged 16 to 26, and one (1) female over the age of 45. Bernard would have been eight (8) in 1800, Sally and Zerviah would have been 20 or 17, and both Jesse and Abigail would have been over 45

• Residence: From 1810 Census, 1810, Milton, Saratoga, New York. Lists the following:

One (1) male age 16 to less than 26 years of age: Bernard
One (1) male age over 45 years of age: Jesse
One (1) female over 26 and under 45 years of age: Abigail (?)

• Residence: From Census, 1820, Milton, Saratoga, New York. Census lists one (1) male age 26 to 45, one (1) male over 45 and one (1) female over 45. Bernard would have been 28 in 1820. Census also lists one (1) person working in agriculture, assumed to be Bernard as Jesse would have been 74 years old.
