* [Most likely The History of Oswego County, New York, by Crisfield Johnson. Philadelphia: L.H. Everts & Co., 1877. William’s father, Jesse Gray and mother, Thyrza Beckwith, were some of the first settlers of Oswego, moving there with their parents in 1812 and 1804 respectively. Jesse and Thyrza were contributors to this book. William Gray is identified on page 436 of the book in the list titled “Names, Of Citizens Who Assisted and Contributed Towards the Publication of The History of Oswego County, with Personal Statistics.” This list identifies the people who ordered the book before it was published.  William Gray’s entry is as follows: Gray, William, Farmer, Oswego, b. Oswego Co., N. Y., s. 1838, p. o. add. Oswego City.]
